National Honor Society Induction and Officer Induction
Dear Marsing Middle School Parents,
As we started this school year, we adjusted our phone policy from previous years by not allowing students to use their phones between 7:30 and 3:22 except during lunch and recess. We have seen a decrease in classroom distractions due to cell phones because of that change. However, we are still having issues with cell phones during the school day.
NEW CHANGES TO MS PHONE POLICY
Beginning on Monday, March 13, the first day of the 4th quarter, we will not allow students to have or use their cell phones between 7:30 and 3:22. Students can have and use their phone before and after school.
REASONS FOR CHANGE
Over the past few months, we have had more students recording other students without their knowledge or permission. While we stop that behavior when we witness it, we cannot stop every instance of recording that is probably taking place.
Not allowing phones is a proactive step to avoid students recording altercations between students and posting the video online, which is a suspendable offense.
Research from across the country is showing that young people are having trouble interacting with other people face-to-face because they spend so much time interacting through devices. We already have times during the day when students are actively using technology and we would like to keep their “tech time” as short as possible during school so we can help them learn to better interact with their peers.
Parents can continue to contact their students by calling the school office at (208) 649-5411, ext. 397 and students will still be able to contact their parents by making calls from the office.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at (208) 649-5411, ext. 396 or by email at bmarshall@marsingschools.org.
Sincerely,
Brian Marshall, Principal

Marsing Parents,
As the secondary school began this morning, a fire alarm was activated, and everyone evacuated the building. There was no fire, and everyone was safe. The issue resulted from loose balloons from last week’s basketball game that covered a fire detection sensor and initiated the evacuation notice. Students were outside of the building for about 10 minutes, and once the building was determined to be safe, all students reentered the building and started their day.

Padres,
